The Story of Us:

Kim’s Version: I was looking to move to Austin, where my company was headquartered. I didn’t know really anyone other than co-workers and thought it wouldn’t hurt to snag a few dates. I hopped onto OKCupid, filled out 10,000 hours worth of questions and began perusing through all my possible matches. OKCupid flagged that there was this guy named Isaac who I matched at an incredible 94%. I messaged this Isaac character, who COMPLETELY IGNORED ME. I was a little annoyed at first, but then I decided that since NONE of his photos looked like same person he was probably just a creepy catfish anyway, and I wrote him off. However, after getting a message from a guy who told me some crazy story/fantasy about me getting mauled by a bear and him saving me, I became a bit more open minded about my options (read this as desperate AF). You probably know where this is going. Catfish was back on the menu, boys! I reached out to Isaac again and threw out some bad puns and dad jokes. As it turns out, this was the perfect bait for this Catfish. We chatted online for a solid month before we actually met in person. In August, I came into town for work and met up with this very mysterious man. Turned out, his name was actually Rob, so he was kinda a catfish? We began dating after that, becoming officially exclusively bf/gf in mid-December. By May 2017, we were exchanging all the I❤U. We moved in together almost a year later in 2018, got engaged in summer of 2019 in Kauai, and scheduled our wedding for 2021 (which we since pushed to…you guessed it…2022).

Rob’s Version: I started using OKCupid way back when I was single in Illinois, before all the other apps existed. Now with Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble, I’d have never thought OKC would have been the platform to find me the one. But here she was, this hot, cool, cosplaying, active woman who sounded too good to be true. And then I read what I THOUGHT said, “I want to be someone my 8-year old would look up to.” I wasn’t ready to navigate a kid situation, so I was hesitant. When Kim doubled back, I reread her profile and realized it said “I want to be someone my 8-year old SELF would look up to.” Reservations gone. After a month of delightful banter via phone and FaceTime, we had our first date on August 5, 2016. You couldn’t have written it better in a movie. I introduced her to all my local besties that weekend, and there was resounding approval. A few years later, I bended the knee to my Queen of Dragons in one of the most beautiful places in the world, a cliff overlooking Hanalei Bay in Kauai. Good thing she said yes, because it would have been a loooong 6 mile hike back otherwise. Since then, we’ve navigated sicknesses, job losses, building furniture, a pandemic, and even putting a pool together as a team. Seems like we got some of the hard stuff out of the way. Now, I can’t wait to celebrate our love with so many of the people we value most in our lives.
